5 Types of Cheating Singles

field trial

Here are the 𝟓 𝐓𝐲𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐞𝐬 I use to train a retriever to make disciplined and balanced decisions when entering the water.

Cheating singles teach our dogs to stay on the line to the retrieve. We'll teach and eventually enforce consistent responses to these types of marks using the marking progression outlined below.

Cheating singles are not a one-time lesson. You'll practice them as your dog progresses through the program and revisit them whenever you notice the standard slipping. On average, a dog should review cheating singles every four to six weeks to maintain good decision-making when entering the water.

Remember: How you react when your dog cheats can greatly impact their future behavior around water.

Check out the Cheating Singles module in FETCH. I've provided step-by-step instructions on how to teach cheating singles and how to react to your dog's mistakes. This is covered in an hour-long webinar and written lessons.
